Book Review: The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho

Jan Lonnen is the second to write for our new regular feature on PS Online. You will now be able to read book reviews for a range of coaching style books as well as reading the TCA team’s favourite books of all time.

Jan, our Qualifications Manager, kicks us off with a book that she found endearing. Here is what she has to say.

This is a short book based on a young shepherd boy named Santiago taking a journey from Spain to Egypt to find his ‘treasure’. Little did he know the journey of self discovery that was going to unfold before him.

I really loved this book the first time I read it, as it was so engaging and full of optimism. Santiago receives ‘signs’ that he feels compelled to follow in the quest to fulfill one’s destiny. On his travels he discovers the greatness of the world and comes across exciting new experiences and a multitude of different people.

This includes a King, a gypsy woman, an Englishman and of course an alchemist. With every person that he meets he begins to understand that each person has differing values and beliefs connected to their lives. This leads him to him to reflect on his own views and thoughts connected to other peoples opinions.

As he nears the end of his journey he starts to discover that the real treasure was the journey itself. The wisdom that he gained along the way he realised that he had all he could ever want all along.

The book is an easy read that would make any journey or evening much more of a pleasure and leave a smile of contentment on your face. I would recommend reading this book as it creates such a feel good factor.

Have you read a book recently that you would like to review and share with our readers?

If so detail 200-250 words about the book, not forgetting the Title and Author and send to Jan Lonnen Qualifications Manager at qualifications@the-coaching-academy.com.
